Welcome to the personal website of Larry N. Thibos

Carving experience
Larry N. Thibos was introduced to figure carving at the 2012 Indiana Limestone Symposium (ILS) by sculptor George Bauer. Working from a live model, that experience initiated his inaugural piece Rebecca. Under Amy Brier's instruction at the 2013 ILS he developed basic masonry skills and initiated a new piece Pomona. At the 2014 ILS he was introduced to John Fisher's systematic method of profile carving and creative technique of envisioning figures in rough-hewn stone blocks. That experience led to Ruby, Thibos's first completed stone carving. Working again with John Fisher at the 2015 ILS produced an animal figure Millicent.

Between ILS events, Thibos studied wood carving with a very helpful video "Carving a figure: the female form" by Ray Gonzalez. That experience produced Nidaba, Thibos's first completed carving in wood. A second wooden sculpture, Minggah, was carved from a windfall tree branch in 2015 while visiting relatives in Australia.
